Junk Queen Declutter- From Chaos to Clarity

That title really should say Chaotic Clutter Queen.

We're gonna break down the clutter for you gals & guys into areas. Then we'll break those areas down into unchaotic sections & underwhelming steps that you can start & stop at your own pace to keep your sanity.

It just happens to be the beginning of a new school year for the littles & here in ENC we are having a crazy early false Fall (hopefully not so false), which makes NOW the perfect time to garage, attic or storage unit. We'll call this PART 1.

First off, pick your room. And a rule of thumb I learned somewhere some eons ago is 'do the thing you want to do the least, First.'

Next step? Where to start? Just pick a spot in the room & start there. When cleaning & organizing an area, you're almost always going to see the space get worse before it gets better. Trust the Process! (Don't forget to take a BEFORE picture of the area!)

Trash

  • My 1st floor section will be designated for small & large trash.

  • Aside from your obvious small trash, make a pile of large trash. Broken totes furniture stained/torn items including clothing, bedding, etc.

Recycle

  • Click on the link here if you want to educate on exactly what you could be saving from the landfill

Cardboard

Plastics

Keep

  • Is it Sentimental to you? This is a touchy one. As a mother of 4 & a romantic, I never wanted to let anything go. BUT, when you get down to it 1. you don't need ALL of your baby clothes 2. You will eventually throw away (or they will) most of their schoolwork. The list goes on. Cut it down to a couple baby items, a couple items of schoolwork each grade to document handwriting, artwork or creations that are in good shape (take pics of projects, do not attempt to keep). You & your kids will still be happy with this.

  • When was it used last? Over 1 year (because you like to buy trends), let it go. Under 1 year but you didn't really care for it? You won't next time either, Let it go. This includes but is not limited to Clothing, Bedding, Appliances/gadgets/tools, DECOR of any kind (you're not likely to bring back the Halloween decor you phased out 4 years ago)

  • Does it even work?

Sell/ Donate

A lot of the questions used for KEEP can be used to determine this pile. If you're not keeping & its not trash, well sell it/donate it OR your local Junk removal company will likely be happy to do that for you.

Once you've got things pared down, Organizing what's left is key to A. keeping it that way B. Your peace of mind. A good question here is "Does it belong in this room?" If not, you should know what to do here. If it does, ok great but you can't leave it in the middle of the floor.

If you can afford to go to The Container Store & get what you need, fantastic!

If you're like me, I'm likely going to hit up the Dollar Tree because they are going to have things to hang, things to contain & things to clean our newly purged & organized room for reasonable prices.

The only thing left to do now is take your AFTER picture so you can marvel at how Awesome you are & then call Heath Recycling & Junk Removal 919-801-5911 if you're around Wake Co., NC or your local junk removal peeps if you're not.

Next we'll tackle the Kitchen or the Bedroom. Undecided, but either one we'll go step-by-step & deep enough to remove some of the weight in your life. Have a Blessed Weekend!!
